(Program for Students with High Intellectual Potential)

Our website is soon to be redesigned to reflect significant developments and new directions at Seaton High School. For up-to-date information about Programs, please refer to:
Curriculum Handbook 2022
Information Handbook 2022

Seaton High School has worked closely with our feeder primary schools since 2001 in order to:

  • teach Higher Order Thinking Strategies to all students, and
  • nurture gifted students to their full potential.

Our feeder primary schools are:

  • Hendon Primary School
  • Grange Primary School
  • West Lakes Shore School R -7
  • teach Higher Order Thinking Strategies to all students, and
  • nurture gifted students to their full potential.
  • Higher Order Thinking Strategies

We recognise that all children benefit from learning experiences that develop their:
    • problem solving
    • decision-making and
    • critical and creative thinking skills.
Seaton High School's practice is to provide a systematic approach to the development of these skills across all the year levels in all the Learning Areas. Higher Order Thinking Strategies include: Bloom's Taxonomy, Compass Rose, Moral Dilemmas, SWOT Analysis and graphic organisers such as Consequence Wheel, Fishbone and Comparison Grid.

    Gifted Students

We recognise that children who possess exceptional and unique abilities, talents and interests:
    • learn at a pace and depth that sets them apart from their age peers, and
    • require modifications to their teaching and learning experiences so that they become confident, independent and self-directed learners, and
    • require structures that accommodate their social, emotional and physical needs
The SHIP classes at Seaton High School provide structured and supported opportunities for gifted students to:
    • interact with peers with similar interests and abilities
    • study at greater depth and speed
    • engage in enrichment and extension courses within the school and with community based services, and
    • accelerate into higher year levels, where appropriate and if in their best interest.
Selection for the Year 8 SHIP class is based on:
    • standardised testing
    • primary teachers' nominations
    • parent nomination
    • student self nomination, and
    • interviews.
For further information in regard to the school's SHIP Program, contact the Principal or the SHIP Cluster Coordinator on (08) 8445 2944.
