Mathematics

Our website is soon to be redesigned to reflect significant developments and new directions at Seaton High School. For up-to-date information about Curriculum, please refer to:
Curriculum Handbook 2022
Information Handbook 2022

Seaton offers a broad and comprehensive range of courses in Mathematics to help meet the needs of students who wish to pursue academic careers, enter into trade pathways and meet the numeracy requirements for SACE.

All students in Years 8, 9 and 10 are required to undertake a full year of study in Mathematics.

As part of their program of study students use an online learning platform called Mathspace. Mathspace is a program that values and encourages true mastery of mathematical concepts. Students are required to show their work and are rewarded with feedback every step of the way.

Students answer problems, just like they would on paper, but with personalised and constant feedback. Mathspace lets students know if they?re on the right track, provides them with hints and videos to get back on track, and records every single piece of work they do and saves it forever, keeping a dynamic account of their progress.

Middle School

  • A focus on delivering an extensive and varied curriculum catering for all student abilities and extending students in their mathematical abilities through problem solving exercises and the use of critical and creative thinking skills.

  • All students participate in ACER PAT-M standardised online Numeracy tests each year.

Year 10

  • Students are placed into different courses to cater for individual student needs based on results from previous years and future student pathways.

SHIP Classes

  • The Years 8, 9 and 10 SHIP classes have an extended, inquiry based Mathematics curriculum involving higher order thinking skills.
  • SHIP students participate in a number of visits to UniSA, Adelaide University and Flinders University to participate in activities organised by the universities and to familiarise themselves with programs available at university level.

Numeracy Support

  • Seaton caters for students who find Mathematics challenging through numeracy support classes in Years 8, 9, 10 and11.

Year 11

  • Different student abilities are catered for through the delivery of a range of Stage 1 courses:  Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, General Mathematics and Essential Mathematics.

Year 12

  • Students are prepared for entry into tertiary institutions, apprenticeships or the work force by undertaking Stage 2 Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, General Mathematics and Essential Mathematics.

Seaton conducts a weekly Maths Homework Centre available to all students with extra help available from experienced Mathematics teachers. Seaton students have traditionally performed well in National Mathematics Competitions and are actively encouraged to participate. Seaton is a partner school of the Advanced Technology Industry Pathways Program.

VET
